(Intro)

A packaging redesign fixing alignment, focus and contrast in the original pack.

The brief

A redesign to fix the problems in the old pack: alignment, focus points and contrast. The new design had to be visually distinct enough to catch and hold attention on shelf.

The approach

The tone was set to match the preferences of the target audience, and to communicate the product's key features and benefits clearly, so the pack works to attract and engage rather than just contain.

The pack

A four-litre jerrycan in violet with an integrated handle and the wordmark embossed into the shoulder of the bottle, so the brand survives even when the label is scuffed. The product is EXCEED Advanced Formulation, a 20W-50 API SL engine oil made with 100% virgin base oil.

The front label leads with the product name and grade, the two things a buyer checks first. The back label turns the claims into a checklist: wear and sludge protection, engine protection, anti-wear, anti-rust and anti-corrosion properties, dispersancy and oxidation stability, followed by the description in English and Arabic.

Rollout

Rendered in 3D as front, back and detail views, and extended into a set of social media designs for the same product line.

Scope

Cartoon label packaging, 3D design and product design.

Note

An unofficial project, produced independently rather than commissioned.
